I had high expectations of Lady Wong, the reality was far from this. I ordered an Ube Blackberry Entremet for my girlfriend's birthday (Tuesday, August 18th) to be picked up at their East Village location on Sunday, August 16th. I checked in with them the day before in-store asking about instructions on how to handle and transport the cake (we are from out of state, a 3-hr drive away), including if they could give me some ice packs the next day to keep the cake cooler (I had my own cake bag). The two workers stared at me with smirks of disdain and said I would have to buy another cake bag for $9, which would only come with a single ice pack. I was already left with a bad impression then, but knowing the stellar reviews of this cake, I at least thought it could redeem the subpar customer service. When we cut into the cake on the 18th (within the two days the workers told me it would be fresh for), we were both very disappointed to see that the Entremet was entirely different from what the online images showed. This place is always a delight to visit! Let me break it down: The atmosphere and workers: Every time I’ve visited, the same sweet, young man is working. Very inviting and calm demeanor, and he displays an in-depth knowledge of the items on sale! I came here to buy my mother some cakes for her birthday in March, and I remember him giving me multiple suggestions (I bought all his suggestions, and they were all very good). Today, he gave me and the person I was with two free cakes! He is an amazing worker. The atmosphere is pleasant. There are maybe 6 stools and a bar for patrons to sit at. The store itself is pretty small, but that is perfectly fine considering the area has multiple parks to go to while eating. The food: The khanom chan is to die for. The first time i had it, around Jan 2025, I craved it every day for a whole month! I remember having only $15 in my bank account yet still making the trip to buy it. Completely worth it! The chewy texture and subtly sweet flavor is so unique, and not a single other shop I’ve been to has been as good as Lady Wong. So memorable! I really enjoyed the pandan nian gao! Similar chewy texture to the khanom chan, so I really enjoyed it. The

I ordered a variety of desserts from Lady Wong Patisserie East Village, and every single one was wonderful! It was a great way to try different flavors, and each dessert was beautifully crafted, fresh, and absolutely delicious. You can really tell how much care goes into every item. I’ll definitely be back to try even more of their menu. Highly recommend!

All their desserts are so good and not too sweet!! Def go for their niangao - Black sesame passionfruit cake: 8/10, bought this for my friend’s bday. Solid flavor! Light and airy and not too sweet

One of the most memorable bakery visits I’ve had in NYC! I tried four of their cakes and each one was a work of art in both flavor and presentation. My absolute favorite was the Black Sesame Passion Fruit. The mousse was perfectly nutty, the caramel balanced, and the sesame crunch gave the best texture contrast. The Ube Blackberry was a dream for ube lovers, layered textures with fragrant ube caramel and a subtle citrus note. The Blackout Noir is a chocolate lover’s fantasy, deep Valrhona chocolate, silky ganache, and coffee caramel that’s rich and indulgent. The Mont Blanc Chestnut Mille Crêpes was delicate, creamy, and lightly sweet with a very refined chestnut flavor. Also tried their Pandan Latte, which was aromatic and unique, a cozy companion to the desserts. Everything here feels thoughtfully created, from flavor pairings to textures. This place is definitely a hidden gem for elevated, modern pastries and I’ll absolutely be coming back for more! Came here through a collaboration; still my honest thoughts as always.
